Bigger Home: When is it Time to Move?

Category Buying Advice

Many of us dream about bigger, more luxurious homes. If you've been in your starter home for a while, you may be asking yourself when is it time to move to a bigger house, or what are the pros and cons of living in a big house. Look no further, we've got the most important things to consider when thinking about a bigger house, or a bigger apartment.

I Can Afford to Upsize My Home

If you haven't already, this is 100% the most important thing you need to consider. Remember, that a bigger home doesn't just mean bigger home loan repayments every month. Maintenance costs, monthly insurance, water bills, electricity bills, and even your fibre internet coverage requirements are all going to go up as well. So, if there's no doubt in your mind that all of the extra costs right now, and all of the bigger bills later are within your budget then go ahead.

You Have To Move Anyway

With remote working, more and more people are choosing to move between provinces, or farther away from the city centre. That opens up a whole new world of bigger house or bigger apartment opportunities! If you're already moving to a quieter, more outlying area to work from home, why not get a bigger place for the same price you're already paying?

I Need More Space

There's a lot we can do to make a small apartment feel bigger but sometimes, there's just not enough small space hacks to save the day. You've got kid number three on the way, you're working from home for the foreseeable future, or your side hustle is ready to become your main hustle. These are all good reasons to consider buying a bigger house.

The Residential Market Is In My Favour

If you haven't been keeping your finger on the pulse of the property market in your favourite suburb, take a look at the sales history for homes in the area. If you look at historical sales prices you can get an idea about the current market-related prices. If you can spot a bargain that's within your budget, then it's a great sign that it's time to scale up. But if you don't know what a bargain looks like and you're shopping for a bigger home, get in touch with our experienced real estate agents to help guide you along the way.
